  1. "Also Spoke/Spake Zarathustra" by Richard Strauss Hope this helps man :)
  2. Sorry, but I don't know what a "sing off" is; there is no definition for the expression: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/sing+off?fromAsk=true&o=100074 There are two primary classical compositions utilized in the soundtrack for the film, "2001 A Space Odyssey" to the best of my recollection; as your first responder has noted, one is Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-J9JAEhODs&feature=related and another, Johann Strauss Jr.'s, "On the Beautiful Blue Danube": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTqlLKBKFhg Alberich
  3. Thus Spake Zarathusthra (R. Strauss, opus 30) ... The monkeys didn't sing when the monolith rose and they tossed their bones in the air.
  4. The above answers are right - BUT the music you speak of (NOT a 'sing off' - whatever THAT is) comprises only the first 2 minutes of a 34-minute piece, rendering the remainder of an excellent piece of music ignored. Shame! The English version of the name 'Zarathustra' is 'Zoroaster'. So, the title should be 'Also sprach Zarathustra' (in the original German) or 'Thus spake Zoroaster' (in English).
  5. The choral pieces in 2001 were by Gyorgy Ligeti. There were 3 different ones. The choral piece for unaccompanied voices is Lux Aeterna. While I think it's dramatic, I don't recall it being used for unveilings. You're probably thinking of Also Sprach Zarathustra, as the others mentioned. But there's no singing in it. The soundtrack to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is entirely written by Danny Elfman.
