  1. Pick something that shows off your voice, but not something that's showy or histrionic. They want a voice that is able to blend. Sorry, I have no suggestions for specific songs. But keep it simple.
  2. Big Wheel by Tori amos
  3. Sing the "Stars Spangle Banner" for your audition. It's the one song that is usually sung a Capella. Another is "The Rose" or "Unchained Melody"
  4. You have requested a contemporary rock song for an a capella audition... is that what they have suggested you sing? Most a capella groups fall into either a chamber group which performs more traditional classical music or a vocal jazz group- they do a mix of both jazz and rock standards, set in 7+ vocal parts. If you are auditioning for the classical, pick a piece that is classical, )even a more simple one sung well like "The Ash Grove"). This will show the director/audition panel that you are diverse. Singing a rock song for a classical audition says "I only know this kind of music"- and will give a great voice less validity. If you are indeed auditioning for a vocal jazz group, go with something perhaps that is a jazz/rock crossover piece. Look at something like "Don't Know Why" by Nora Jones. Try to incorporate some scat with the audition if practical. Again that gives the panel the opportunity to see a diverse voice, and scat is something that takes some practice to develop. Have a great audition. HS choir director
  5. I don't know if it's familiar to you or not but maybe "Bring A Torch, Jeanette, Isabella!" my high school's Madrigal group in 2005 had the girls sing this. It's a very pretty song.
