Do you know any French songs that could be sung by a female voice?
There's a competition thing I got entered into for my French class, and one of the options is to sing a song, so I really want to do that. I have a really good range, and it's informal, so I can change the key to whatever I want, and don't need sheet music. I do need, however, to have an example to listen to, and it must be sung either a capella, or the accompaniment must be easy to find and free. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be REALLY grateful.

- If you say you have a good range and have permission to transpose key signatures to your liking, you should try L'Heure Exquise by Reynaldo Hahn :) It is such a gorgeous song, isn't very lengthy (as well as in the public domain, meaning accompaniment and sheet music should be easily found for free!), and the text is: La lune blanche luit dans les bois De chaque branche part une voix Sous la ramée. O bien-aimée! L'étang reflète, profound miroir, La silhouette du saule noir Où le vent pleure. Rêvons, c'est l'herure! Un vaste et tender apisement Semble descendre du fimament Que l'astre irise; C'est l'heure exquise! which translates to something like: The white moon shines in the forest, From every branch comes forth a voice, Under the foliage. Oh beloved! The pond, a deep mirror, reflects The silhouette of the dark willow, Where the wind cries. Let's dream, 'tis the hour! A vast and tender calm Seems to descend from the firmament, Iridescent with stars; 'Tis the exquisite hour! ~~~ This is one of the pieces in my repertoire for my senior recital and it is also one of my favorites! Check out this video of Susan Graham's performance for an example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HI2hmM0EKk&feature=fvst One other choice that I haven't worked on myself (also by Hahn) is A Chloris if you prefer this song over L'Heuere Exquise... Good luck - I hope this helps :)
- If you are looking for actual performance songs try Celine Dion. Or fun song are petit poissont and je suis un pizza.
